Hiro is Shuichi's best friend and grew up with him.  Him and Shuichi have always wanted to be in a band and create "Bad Luck".  Hiro is the lead guitarist for the band and is a caring, talented, and brilliant guy.  Hiro is also Shuichi's moral support and is always there for him when Shuichi is having problems with Yuki.  We come to see through the series that Hiro really cares about Shuichi and even goes as far as threatening Yuki not to hurt his friend and saying that if he ever makes him cry, from something other then his own nativity he would make him sorry.

      It is assumed that Hiro is Bisexual in the beginning of the show.  He pretty much tells Shuichi that he is going to get lonely now that he doesn't have him all to himself.  But Hiro's love for Shuichi is an unselfish one and he only wishes for Shuichi to be happy.  That is probably also a reason for why Hiro is so protective of Shuichi when it comes to someone hurting him.

      Hiro falls in love with Ayaka Usami, who was originally Yuki's fiancée, after the first time they meet.  He doesn't realize this until a while later when he threatens to quite bad luck.  He wants to quite because he is mad that the company is using Shuichi's relationship with Yuki to sell records.  There also might be a little jealousy that Shuichi doesn't seem to need him as much as he did before.  Now that he realizes his feelings for Ayaka they often spend long hours talking on the phone and she even agrees to date him if he can sell one million records.
